Well people the predicted first shot from sunspot AR2673 has arrived 8:00 pm Eastern Standard time. The first round produced a severe G4 class storm. NASA had predicted that the solar flare would arrive on September 08, 2017 and would produce a lesser storm or G3. This means the the solar flares are moving much faster and more powerful than thought.
THE CME HAS ARRIVED, GEOMAGNETIC STORMS IN PROGRESS: A CME has just hit Earth’s magnetic field (Sept.7th at ~2300 UT). This is the debris from Wednesday’s decade-class X9 solar flare. It arrived earlier than expected, confirming that the storm cloud is both fast and potent. A severe G4-class geomagnetic storm is in progress as our planet’s magnetic field reverberates from the impact. Kira Moss is in Tromso, Norway, where she is seeing “massive auroras all the way round! Surreal!” High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras in bright moonlight. Free: Aurora Alerts
The solar flares could reach lower altitudes and may be seen from your neck of the woods- later tonight and tomorrow should be very telling.
